The Montreal General Hospital Foundation takes pride in its contribution to the leadership and ongoing development of The Montreal General Hospital. We take great pride also in our fundraising activities and how these precious funds are used for the benefit of current and future patients at the MGH.
Over the 11-year period ending in 2010, the MGHF expended in excess of $136 million in donor support on projects promoting excellence in patient care, teaching and research.
Some of the major investments made possible by your donations include:
The MGH has been mandated by the Government of Québec to be an integral part of the Redevelopment of the MUHC. The Montreal General Hospital facilities will be outfitted with the latest technologies and will create the necessary adjacencies to allow the MUHC to fulfill its mandate as a tertiary trauma centre. It will also be the home of orthopaedics, an emergency department, mental health services, general medicine and surgery, oral and maxillo-facial surgery, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, geriatric medicine and neurosciences.
This exciting mission, which requires significant funding to ensure success, will include:

As an integral part of the Redevelopment program, patient rooms will be reconstructed to provide for individual patient care. This will greatly assist optimum medical and nursing care, infection control, patient and family privacy, dignity and comfort.
Many of our benefactors have expressed an interest in supporting this effort. In response, we have created a program of sponsorship whereby individuals or groups may support the reconstruction and equipping of a single patient room with a commitment of $75,000. In recognition, the MGHF will dedicate the room and install a plaque in the name of the donor.
Our President, Ronald Collett, would be happy to discuss this program with you in greater depth. View the Contact page

Mental Health Inpatient Services at the MUHC are currently provided on two sites, the MGH and the Allan Memorial Institute. Redevelopment plans provide for a unified and integrated Inpatient Unit with 55 beds at the MGH. This specially designed Unit will provide for acute care of patients with mental illness in a secure environment.
This new Unit will facilitate integrated medical and surgical care (when necessary), various levels of stimulation as patients progress towards wellness; focused psychosocial and cognitive treatments; transition to partial hospitalization and therapy rooms for patients and families. Specialized detoxification programs, geriatric services and tertiary care research protocols will be provided.
We are immensely proud of the partnership The Montreal General Hospital Foundation shares with the Research Institute of the MUHC (RI) in providing Annual Research Awards. Together with the RI, the MGHF presents more than 80 Research Awards annually. Your donations helped us to contribute more than $2.0 million in 2009 to worthy research specialists and initiatives.
Two new awards have been created this year in memory and honour of Dr. Joseph Stratford.
