The Research Awards epitomize the spirit of collaboration and innovation between the MGH Foundation, its generous donors and the MUHC Research Institute. Together, we are committed to funding extraordinary research for the benefit of our community.

This year, we were proud to announce over 80 awards with a value of over $1.6 million dollars!

Support Research

Due to COVID-19, we unfortunately had to cancel our annual dinner. Instead, we asked each award recipient to share a short video explaining their research and thanking the wonderful donors who support their work, year after year.

The funds we receive allow us to attract and retain world-leading physicians, and thus ensure that we have the best and brightest minds looking after us and our families here in Montreal. Why is funding for research so important? Because research improves care, through discovery, for the benefit of patients worldwide today and for generations to come.

The Montreal General Hospital is a center for specialized and ultra-specialized care. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, our teams are pushing the limits of medical research and improving treatments, with the goal of giving patients back their best quality of life, as quickly as possible.

Thanks to your donations, our research capacity has significantly increased from 88 publications in 2012 to 199 publications in 2019, our research grants have grown from $ 3.3M per year to over $ 20M per year, and our number of graduate students has quadrupled from 8 to 32 individuals.

Anaesthesia and Neurology

As a specialized Trauma Centre, we treat many brain injury victims, which makes the Montreal General Hospital an ideal place to undertake research projects and develop new knowledge about the human brain, an organ still shrouded in mystery.

At the Montreal General Hospital Foundation, we firmly believe that there is no health without mental health. It is part of our mission to support medical teams and help them in providing the highest level of patient care, in undertaking research into potential new treatments for the most serious and persistent psychiatric illnesses, and to train the next generation of care providers.

Every day, members of our community receive a life-altering diagnosis: lung, esophageal, stomach, colorectal or breast cancer. Thanks to the support of our donors, our researchers are able to push the limits of medicine and improve the effectiveness of treatments for cancer patients.
