Anaesthesia and Neurology

As a specialized Trauma Centre, we treat many brain injury victims, which makes the Montreal General Hospital an ideal place to undertake research projects and develop new knowledge about the human brain, an organ still shrouded in mystery.

At the same time, our anaesthesia teams are also conducting their research. They work in close collaboration with various specialists, both to accompany our patients in their pain management and to prepare them adequately for their upcoming surgery.

Dr. Manon Choinière

Louise and Alan Edwards Foundation Award in Pain Research

Part of my research work consists of implementing a registry of adult patients who are referred and followed up in 12 multidisciplinary pain treatment clinics across Canada, including the Alan Edwards Pain Management Unit. This registry is designed to assist clinicians in their efforts to improve the condition of their patients, as well as guide decision makers in their choice and allocation of treatment resources/services for the management of chronic pain. This registry will also provide researchers with a national clinical research infrastructure for conducting large multi-site studies aiming at improving the treatment of chronic pain.

Dr. Dvir Dori

Fellowship in Neuromuscular Diseases

My work is both clinical and investigational. In my clinical work I help diagnose and treat neurological and neuromuscular diseases at the Montreal General Hospital and at other medical centres affiliated with McGill University. In my research work I will be investigating an unusual genetic condition, ‘strong man syndrome’, which causes muscle hypertrophy, increased strength, and myalgia, with the hopes of better understanding the mechanisms behind muscular dystrophy and other muscle diseases.

Dr. Lilach Eyal-Waldman

Dr. Joe Stratford Award for the Study of Pain

I study the possible relationship between the gut bacteria and chronic pain conditions. I am looking at the effect of different diets on chronic pain and on the gut/brain axis. I am interested in real-world clinical studies, and am also involved in the Quebec Cannabis Registry research project.
