CODE LiFE INTERVIEWS (2022-2023 Season)

A second season of CODE ViE Interviews began in 2022. This time in a podcast/video format, journalist Annie DeMelt interviews researchers, physicians, and others to talk about clinical innovation, aging well, the Future of Surgery, critical care, and trauma care in the Far North, among other topics!

Our guests are two engineers, both recipients of CODE LiFE Research Awards, who are bringing to life a leap in innovation that aims to support and empower heart surgeons and improve outcomes for patients of cardiac surgery. Amir Hooshiar, PhD, Director of the Surgical Robotics Centre, and Amir Sayadi, a PhD student in Experimental Surgery and Medical Robotics at McGill, are two of the co-founders of Holo-Ray, a mixed reality platform that can create a 3D model of a heart to be used by physicians during surgery, planning and training.

This series was organized in collaboration with the McGill University Health Centre and the MGH 200th Anniversary Organizing Committee.

CODE LiFE Interview: Trauma Care in Quebec

The Dr. David S. Mulder Trauma Centre is one of only three Level 1 adult trauma centres in Quebec and the key treatment centre for people with the most complex and serious injuries.

To discuss the evolution of the practice and the main challenges in trauma, we have gathered three exceptional guests: Dr. Jeremy Grushka, Trauma Surgeon, Claudia Di Iorio, former patient and CODE LiFE Leader, and Melissa Donaldson, clinical nurse at the ER. With former CTV host Annie DeMelt.

CODE LiFE Interview: Philanthropy in Healthcare

The Montreal General Hospital has survived and thrived thanks to two centuries of community support. Most recently, the Montreal General Hospital Foundation concluded the most ambitious campaign of its existence. Launched in 2018, the CODE LiFE campaign represents the MGH Foundation’s commitment to supporting vital care for the entire community.

A piece of chicken he couldn’t swallow. That’s why Steve sought medical help in September 2016. After a few tests, the diagnosis was handed: he had stage four oesophageal cancer. Steve was told his only option was palliative care, which would give him a few extra weeks to spend Christmas with his family. If he was lucky, he might make it to New Year.
