Care for the community

We are committed to the health and well-being of our community. That’s why we invest in clinics and equipment to continually improve care for the community. We also support unique and value-added programs, such as the Peri Operative Program (POP), which prepares patients for surgery, the Injury Prevention Program, which educates young people about road safety, and the Recovery Transition Program, which provides services delivered by Peer Mentors to patients leaving the Department of Psychiatry after a prolonged stay.

Ultra-specialized care

Contrary to what its name suggests, the Montreal General Hospital is not a general hospital. Rather, this Montreal institution houses ultra-specialized clinics that treat the most complex medical cases, in fields as varied as oncology, psychiatry and orthopaedics. Its Trauma Centre—one of only three centres specializing in adult trauma in Quebec—treats victims of vehicle accidents, falls and violent crimes who have the most severe injuries. In addition to this are the Centres of Excellence treating lung, esophageal and stomach cancers, as well as sarcomas.

World-class research

Thoracic oncology, head trauma, cardiology and more: each year, MGH and RI-MUHC researchers distinguish themselves internationally. The reputation of our researchers and our institution allow us to continue recruiting researchers from abroad so that they can continue doing their research here in Montreal. The MGH Foundation is also proud to support young researchers, year after year, by providing grants that give them free rein with their scientific creativity and help them gain the recognition necessary to obtain more substantial grants or public funding.

A teaching hospital

Since the early days of McGill’s medical school two hundred years ago, the Montreal General Hospital has played a key role in training tomorrow’s doctors and researchers. Today, our medical teams also oversee the training of many nurses, physiotherapists, kinesiologists and other health professionals.
