Our 2022 Highlights

The immense generosity of donors and partners once again made this a memorable year. Their continued support enabled us to contribute to the achievement of innovative and meaningful projects.

Here are five outstanding projects from 2022 to discover if you haven’t had the chance to see them!

1. CODE LiFE Interviews

This fall, we launched a new season of the CODE LiFE Interviews as a podcast available in both audio and video. Thus far, our host Annie DeMelt, has covered topics such as mixed reality in surgery with Amir Hooshiar, Ph.D. and Amir Sayadi, ICU with Dr. David Hornstein and falls prevention for healthy aging with Dr. José A. Morais. These research projects and new treatments are made possible thanks to your support.

2. Étoile CODE ViE

Last May, we launched our new Étoile CODE ViE recognition program, which is an opportunity for patients to acknowledge the contribution of an MGH staff member. Close to 100 people have already been honoured!

Our newest Étoile recipient, Ludovic Aubin, Nurse Practitioner specializing in adult care, works in the Thoracic Surgery Department at the Montreal General Hospital.

3. Soirée en or

The “Soirée en or” event raises funds for Thoracic Cancer Research. In 2022, donors to the cause raised over $400,000. This renewed support represents a ray of hope for the many patients fighting lung, esophageal and stomach cancer, not only in Montreal but across Quebec. A special thank you to everyone who contributed. “Soirée en or” will be back in 2023!

4. CODE LiFE Research Awards 2022

Once again this year, more than 80 CODE LiFE Research Awards, reaching $1.4 million, were awarded to support research and innovation in medicine. Funded projects enable the advancement of treatments and healthcare today and in the years to come.

5. SAFE: Senior Adult Fitness Exercises

Last, but certainly not least, 2022 brought the launch of the Senior Adult Fitness Exercises program (SAFE), powered by CODE LiFE. Unfortunately, falls remain one of the leading causes of hospitalization among the elderly. That is why Dr. Morais and his team developed this prevention initiative. This website offers a series of physical exercise videos, available for free, to improve the physical fitness and quality of life of seniors and their caregivers.
