Collaboration Fuels a New AI Nursing Solution

The Montreal General Hospital Foundation (MGHF) is proud to support ENACT (Empowering Nurses with AI for Care Transformation). Created to support nursing teams, this innovative artificial intelligence–powered solution. This new tool is developed by human resources company Airudi in collaboration with the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and its nurses. Made possible through the generosity of the Newton Foundation, and Scale AI, Canada’s artificial intelligence cluster, this project reflects the power of collaboration in advancing effective healthcare solutions.

Leveraging AI to Improve Patient Care

ENACT is a suite of AI-based tools that use predictive models and multi-task learning, which is intended to be gradually rolled out across hospital sites. With development guided by nurses to ensure it meets real clinical needs, the system is designed to optimize staff assignments, automate shift reports, and support the prioritization and delegation of nursing interventions.

Not only will ENACT improve healthcare system efficiency by reducing the time nurses spend on non-clinical tasks; it will also help work-life balance and allow nurses to spend more time with patients. In fact, the MUHC estimates that implementing ENACT will give each nurse at least one additional hour per week with patients.

“Funding innovation in healthcare is essential, and our Foundation is proud to support innovations such as ENACT and to collaborate with our city’s thriving AI community” says Brian Thompson, President and CEO of the MGHF. “Thanks to generous donors like the Newton Foundation, we can partner with Scale AI to leverage the potential of new technologies to benefit patients, which is aligned with our Foundation’s mission. We welcome collaborative opportunities to connect philanthropists and investors with medical leaders and visionary researchers, such as those behind ENACT.”

“ENACT is a project for nurses, by nurses,” says Alain Biron, Director of Nursing, MUHC. “It integrates AI solutions and equips teams with powerful tools to support their work, while allowing them to focus on what really matters, spending more time with their patients. We are proud to be part of this unique collaborative initiative, made possible thanks to the support of the Montreal General Hospital Foundation and Scale AI.”

Let’s transform healthcare together!
